06/25/2009 She has a huge heart

Today we got the Southeast Outlook newspaper in the mail. I grabbed the mail as I was pulling into the driveway and Lacie saw Joel Sonnenberg on the cover. She asked, what is that? I looked at it and told her that he is a man who was in a bad car accident when he was a little boy - Paul's age and got burned real bad on his face. That is all I knew from the cover of the paper. Lacie then carried that paper in our house and just kept staring at it. She followed me around and asked, "does he hurt mommy?" I told her probably not as much now. She asked if he cried when he was a baby and got burned in the accident and I told her I am sure he did. She asked, "is he in this world?" I said yes - he is still alive. She asked, "will he be alright?" So we read the article together. (I omitted some info). She then said to me, "I do not want Paul getting hurt like that." I asked her, "do you want to pray for Mr. Joel?" She said yes. So we did. She also said she wants to write him a letter to make sure he really is doing ok.

I was so touched tonight as I saw my sweet four year old daughter find compassion for a stranger.

So when I was looking online for Joel to share with this post I found a few videos. One particularly caught my eye - it was Joel in Seoul S. Korea - here is the link (click on link and then choose the Seoul option.) You can also click on Southeast Outlook here to see the picture that grabbed at Lacie's heart.

Blessings!

I just got caught up on your blog - how sweet your kids are. That Lacie has such compassion at this age is amazing to me. She is such a darling and you are doing a superb job at raising her. She and Paul have Jesus' light shining brightly within them. I love the pictures of Paul - he is a little gymnist now! I wish we lived closer to a gym, I'd love to get Peyton into that - he loves to climb and tumble. You're a great mom, Vonda. I really admire you a lot. :)
