"A house that is a home and has happy kids living in it is ALWAYS a mess. When they are gone, you can straighten and dust all you want, but the kids and the mess will be sorely missed." -John Easterling

09/12/2008 He KNOWS my name!

I was the 7th of many grandchildren on my mother’s side of the family. AND, my grandparents were also young enough at the time to have a little boy just three years older than me – so for awhile, at any given time there were eight little kids running around their house. Back then, I remember my mammaw in the kitchen and my Pappaw watching sports on TV. I do not remember much interaction. They were probably not much older than me at the time and were probably looking forward to everyone leaving and getting their youngest in bed for the night so they could have peace and quite - just my thoughts and assumptions. Anyway, once, when I was about 8 years old or so, I decided to take my grandparents dog for a walk. As I headed down the road with Chico – my Pappaw said, “Vonda, don’t go to far.” WOW – all I could think of then was, “He KNOWS my name!” I do not think I ever heard him say my name.

Tonight when we were having dinner, Lacie told Euitag that she loved him. Euitag usually responds to her love and compliments with a simple “thank you.” Tonight when Lacie said, “Euitag, I love you.” Euitag responded with, “I love you too Lacie.” She turned to me with a smile on her face and said, “Mommy, Euitag knows my name.” It brought back the memories I shared above. In fact, my Pappaw ended up with 17+ grandchildren and I believe he always knew all our names.

We got together with other China and Korea adoptive families for dinner on Tuesday evening at a restaurant that has a play ground. The kids had a wonderful time and they go to burn a lot of energy. For a long time our group made up of all girls adopted from China. Now we have many boys joining our group - some from China but others from Korea and Guatemala, and other countries. Over the past few years, we have many pictures of our girls in a group. Now I have a few of some of our boys. This is also a “Déjà vu” moment – notice my son – second from the right:

Now, here is Lacie’s first group photo in China – she is second from the left:

Paul is now happier with mommy holding him. Check out the affection of one of the boys – isn’t that so sweet?

Stay tuned for more pictures from our gathering AND a recent conversation with Lacie about Santa Claus.

Can't wait to hear the convo about Santa. I have recently had one with Olivia but she's a tad older than Lacie. This reminds me I need to post about that one.
